At first I thought you were being a bit overwrought, but after reading that last post I can see your point about wanting a little more than a hotmail account.
I use my own name now in e-mail accounts for reasons that parallel those you mention. I want to be relatively transparent - to a point.
On the other hand, we need to allow for some sort of new media hermeneutic by which we can establish the reliability of information without going to the inordinate lengths of checking every fiddling fact.
Shooting from the hip, your objections do seem to be associating the message overmuch with the messenger. Cronkite was an old fraud, in my view, and traded in distortions due to American's near universal trust. The message in and of it self is neither true or untrue because of the messenger. How quickly we accept the message might be, depending on our comfort with the messenger for good or for ill.
Whew!
