You're making a gross exaggeration

Any where in Vietnam was dangerous...get a clue!

There is danger anywhere in life. A person can get killed driving down a highway or slip in a bathtub. The dangers faced by someone working as a Stars and Stripes reporter in Saigon were minimal, especially when compared to the grunts in the bush or units like the Swift boats. Yes, Kerry faced danger, but when he volunteered for the assignment, it wasn't considered hazardous duty much more than crusing off the coast in a destroyer. The rules changed and so he did face hazardous duty, but that isn't what he volunteered for.

Many people volunteered for the Navy and Air Force to avoid having to serve in the Army and Marines. In the Navy, most people didn't serve in hazardous jobs except for jobs like Corpsmen, aircrew, and SEALS. In the Air Force, the most dangerous jobs were aircrew and pararescue. For most of the rest, it was as one Vietnam vet described it to me. He said, "Vietnam was the best kept secret in the world." He had a ball in Vietnam flying liason planes and the only hazards he encountered had to do with the weather.
