I home schooled a few years- Oklahoma has very loose laws regulating home schooling; that is both bad and good. Some other families that home schooled their kids were doing it solely to give them a better education than what could be found in public school. In those cases it was very successful. However most families were doing it for religious reasons- this was almost ALWAYS a disaster. The children were not educated, instead they were sheltered and indoctrinated. I saw the level of education some kids were getting and I couldn't see how these kids were going to ever be able to become a members of society. Their textbooks were all christian or in oncase, Mormon based teaching manuals. They were ONLY taught creationism and that evolution was evil and godless. Noah's ark was taught as a factual historical event.
I really do wonder what happened to those kids. I cant imagine it turned out well for them.
As most here probably know I am an atheist- I think all religions have equal validity- ie none. I really don't care if someone has a religion or not, I have had friends that were devout catholics, and even had friendly very interesting debates about the validity of religion with them. Where I have a problem is when parents force their religion on their kids in such a complete way that it becomes indistinguishable from brainwashing. True faith cannot be imposed....
