Space/Science » in reply to I think(?) Einstein died an Atheist

Occam's Razor

For me, the fundamental problem with a creator is simply my observation in science that the answers always seem to lie in the simplest solution. If you come up with a solution that only spawns more unanswerable questions, the solution is invalid.

The simplest solution, in my opinion is that all matter and energy simply always existed, that to put a beginning to them only brings up the question of what existed just prior to their arrival. What we observe as the Big Bang, which is often that event that people cite as the tie-in between science and religion, is simply one of the infinite events in the small section of space and time we can observe. Infinity is an answer in itself to me. It's only when a beginning is implied that complications arise.

The same feelings make me an atheist. To swallow the notion of a creator, one has to completely ignore the question of "where did the creator come from?". Logic clearly dictates that infinite series of questions. Once you then throw in what I've observed of basic human behavior, the absolutely irrational behavior of religion throughout history, and the overwhelming lack of concrete evidence to support Gods, UFO's, ESP, or any of the other human fantasies religion, simply turns out to be a product of intense wishful thinking and imagination and a force for human control and manipulation.

I fully understand the case for agnosticism but in my mind the possibility of existance of God, which the agnostic must acknowledge falls into the category of the existance of the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof to even consider them. That proof will never be found and I think that agnosticism is simply a step in the natural evolution to atheism just as that step at 10 years old when you discover your parents putting the presents under the Christmas (or Winter Solstice) tree.
