I don't care for fundamentalist types and I don't like the administration position re stem cell research. The big offenders are the Pat Robertsons and Jerry Falwells of the world. Thankfully they are only special interest leaders and not policy makers.
As to Bush. I doubt he is much more fundamental than a United Methodist and that's not extreme.
The rest of it (God Bless The USA) is just cheerleading and is no more religious than I am when I damn someone or something. I am a confirmed agnostic but if I am at a public function and someone says bow you head and pray, I bow my head. If someone asks me to pray for them I will say sure.
Most people in this country are nominally religious and imo that is a good thing. People need to have a spiritual area in their lives to be complete. That can be anything from simple meditation to actively participating in a religion. The key is to keep it in perspective.
In each life we need a little dark, a lot of light and some degree of oneness with the universe but it must be symmetrical.
Symmetry is everything.
