However, I have the feeling that the majority of voters in the country would probably go for disolving the EC. Most don't have the historical knowledge to understand its evolution.

Just what is involved to begin a Constitutional amendment based on voter initiative? I assume some sort of state to state petition drive begins it all. I remember a bit about the ERA when it was going on but never delved into the details of how it was initiated and it's been way too many years since I took a civics course.
