Maps and times

One of the sources (I don't remember which one now) did emphasize that this map would look different for different months. An Iraqi blogger pointed out that during the Sadr uprising, car bombings and other attacks seemed to die down considerably, which is interesting. I would like to see that same map for many different months. I think it would be very instructive.

I would also like to see more of the methodology of what constitutes an "attack." Does a bomb found and disarmed constitute an "attack?" Gunfire: hearing gunfire nearby, or do bullets have to be pinging off your Humvee?

The big picture has to be maintained. The objective of all of the insurgent activity is to get us to cut and run. The upswing in recent activity is in support of this objective, and designed to influence elections in the U.S., Australia, and in their own country.

For one thing, they believe Kerry will cut and run. So do I. The heart of the leftist outlook is to instantly assume your nation is in the wrong, and act accordingly. Kerry hasn't really changed in thirty years.

From the New York Times article:

"We have had zero tactical losses; we have lost no battles," said one senior American military officer. "The insurgency has had zero tactical victories. But that is not what this is about.

"We are at a very critical time," the officer added. "The only way we can lose this battle is if the American people decide we don't want to fight anymore."

The enemy is very well aware of this.
