Turkey is terrified of a Kurdish state. Sooner or later that state would want to include the Turkish Kurds, and it would be a mess. In fact, the US had to promise Turkey there wouldn't be a division of Iraq.

Don't know if that promise holds as Turkey wouldn't let US military through, wouldn't hold anyway really.
