"It's amazing how we can put absolute restrictions on a country of our choice and not put those same standards on a supposed ally."
We put don't restrictions on countries. Countries are soveriegn nations.
"Turkey has more to gain from an alliance from us than we do from them."
This doesn't make any sense.
"Here's the deal. In order to keep Iraq stable, we've decided that Iraq must be divided up into 3 segments. This will create a Kurdish state."
The Kurdish people live in Iraq, Turkey, and Iran. What we want is for all three of this countries to be peaceful- and the Kurdish minorities in all these countries to be treated well. It's not in the US interest to divide countries according to their ethic background. We believe that diversity is a good thing.
"Sorry if we offended you but if you attack them you will go from an ally to an enemy. We regret that situation but you've forced us into this corner. We will prevent those Kurds from attacking you as well. Time to get over this and move on into the rest of the world.
In the end you'll see the advantages of a stable region below your borders."
I'm sure the Turks would be very impressed with your bullshit. Then show you the door.
After you left, and knowing that America has somehow managed to get completely crazy leadership, they would be forced to draw up plans to ethnically cleanse their country of their Kurdish citizens. They would forced to do this to avoid Turkey from having a civil war in the future. As soon as the Kurdish state was formed, the Turks would invite, later encourage, and then finally force the Kurds to leave Turkey and settle in new Kurdish state. Iran would do the same thing.
This ethnic cleansing would rightly be seen as being caused by American policy. And you certainly would have no legal right to use miltary force against Turkey- and we don't even have to add in that Turkey is a NATO member & for us to use miltary force against a member of NATO is simply unconceivable- at least by most of us mortals.
