It's amazing how we can put absolute restrictions on a country of our choice and not put those same standards on a supposed ally. Turkey has more to gain from an alliance from us than we do from them. Here's the deal. In order to keep Iraq stable, we've decided that Iraq must be divided up into 3 segments. This will create a Kurdish state. Sorry if we offended you but if you attack them you will go from an ally to an enemy. We regret that situation but you've forced us into this corner. We will prevent those Kurds from attacking you as well. Time to get over this and move on into the rest of the world.

In the end you'll see the advantages of a stable region below your borders.
