Bowser said something a few days ago that has increasingly resonated with me...something along the lines of absence of outrage being a dereliction.
It strikes me as an important point. IMO, this country is simply taking the tragedy in stride. We're seeing a calm, measured response, and the effect of that response is, largely, nothing at all. There's a rising level of acceptance--I won't use the "c" word, although I still think it's sadly appropriate--that I think is being both inculcated and exploited for political purposes...but which is also quite welcome with many Americans because it means two things: we don't have to tackle a remarkably difficult problem; and we can truncate whatever mournful feeling we might have. The events, for most of us, were not only distant but we are now assured they were entirely, and eternally, out of our control.
"Wait and think" is certainly not bad advice...except when it's code for "wait and do nothing." That's not you, I know that. But I think it's out there and it's powerful. And it's most certainly won this round.
