I've just gotten so many anectotal examples to justify pretty much any social engineering program that I assumed this was another one.
You see, there is no social engineering program, welfare program, taxpayer subsidy, or socialist wet dream for which you can't pull somebody out from behind a sign like Woody Allan did in "Annie Hall", and show that without that program this person would Surely Die. Doesn't matter if he represents one person in fifty thousand--it's enough. Whether the person is a real person, or someone plausible who is made up, it makes no difference to the concept.
The Democratic Party has raised this approach to a fine art.
Down below, Mary Anne pulls the "blue babies" out from behind the sign to justify socializing utilities, and to provide further evidence that people left to themselves will always do the stupidest thing. For the record, I am sure she did not make these blue babies up.
The end of the road in the direction of socialism is old Eastern Europe, or worse. And right now the rachet is only running in one direction. Sorry if that upsets me.
