A preimptive strike was part of the justification. The war however was a continuation of GW1 sanctioned by the UN based on Saddam's failure to abide by the truce terms and further sanctioned by 1441 threatening severest consequences. Still waiting on a definition of what that more severe consequence is that means 1441 didn't justify force. I agree we were duped by Saddam or his henchmen and/or the likes of Chalabi who must have had some reason to present a false picture. Saddam may have simply felt he could not afford to knuckle under completely to the UN or risk loosing his tough guy reputation. Saddam ended up duping himself however believing that a false picture of WMD was to his advantage.
Or were you one of those that was duped into believing Saddam was harmless?

Mark
