If we invade lots of countries and buy lots of military equipment, then there will be a demand for defense engineers and people will prepare themselves to fill those jobs. If we buy a lot of space equipment then people will seek profitable careers in space.
Your implication that it can't be done, is false.
I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who lost defense-related aerospace jobs in the LA area (extended - includes especially Lancaster/Palmdale). With the "snap of a finger" they found positions with civilian airlines, civil airplane design, manufacturing, software engineering, etc. One friend of a friend took some kind of job in Saudi Arabia and made a fortune (compared to my income, anyway), came back and retired on his savings.
Now, that finger-snap does not refer to the real pain that people suffer when they are forced to change jobs due to upheavals in industry. Still, that kind of pain is all around us every day, whether the govt. changes its priorities or not.
Current Events » in reply to Yeah, we'll just take the guys building tanks and put them right to work on solar panels.
We set the priorities.
