A lot of reactors are being decommissioned for political reasons, not because they need to be.
If one is going to start writing off hydrocarbons, and assuming no technological miracle comes down the pike, there is no feasible way to maintain the energy requirements of the modern world without a large-scale concentrated power source like nuclear. This is particularly true as the Second and Third World start moving into the First World. The fact that many environmentalists have a feather up their...nose...about this power source doesn't change the facts.
China ain't going to get the job done with windmills. Oh, that's right. Environmentalists don't like windmills any more, either. It's on the shitlist now along with hydroelectricity.
The only real alternative the radical environmental movement seems to have on the plate is dismantling Western technological society. That isn't going to fly, either.
I note that you don't seem to be bothered that alternate energy sources favored by environmentalists (at least until they actually become feasible), like solar, etc., are also endlessly subsidized.
