- The costs per student for elementary and secondary schools, adjusted for inflation, have tripled since 1965.
- In that time, the salaries of the teachers, also adjusted for inflation, have only gone up by a factor of about 1.2. Read that again.
- What was our education system like up to 1965? We built the most advanced technological society on the planet and were about to put men on the Moon. And all without a Federal Department of Education. Additional note: the first collective bargaining law for public employees didn't pass until 1959 in Wisconsin.
- The national teacher's unions are a power structure of the Democratic Party, funneling millions in laundered tax funds to support that party, and no other. Sure as hell they haven't done much to pump up teacher salaries over the past four decades.
- Something like 51 percent of teachers identify as Democrat. 25 percent Republican, 24 percent Independent. The unions do not reflect this diversity, and never will.
Anyone who thinks the problem is that we're not spending enough government money on education is, basically, an idiot, and I'm tired of soft-pedalling it. Now that was an opinion, but it has a lot to back it up.
