After decades of theoretical papers, tenured positions and no testable predictions (the essence of science vs. philosophy) string theorists are feeling some heat from other phycisists who consider string theorists as a quasi-religious cult, albeit one speaking in tongues of abtruse mathematics. Our anti-Cassini zealot friend Michiu Kaku is a leading popularizor for string theory. I personally have problems with a so-called scientific movement that does not produce predictions that are testable. It started out as a quest to find out why our universe had certain physical constants set "just so" but after decades, the oft modified string theory predicts every possible type of universe. This is not a very testable or useful prediction.
