Michio Kaku was trying to sell some of his sleazy Carl Sagan knock-off books at the time Casinni was about to fly. Kaku saw an opportunity for free publicity to improve sales and took it. He didn't give a diddly-damn about compromising a billion dollar spacecraft. He's not crazy. He's just an unethical scumbag impersonating a scientist.
