Space/Science » in reply to ET artifacts in our Solar System

A lot depends on whether or not they want artifacts to be found

Obviously, whether or not our space probes are easy to locate by some alien race is not top priority for the science teams. Our deep space probes have plaques and "records"--just in case--but none of them is wasting power broadcasting a beacon in all directions.

In "2001," the monolith on the Moon was made just hard enough--and easy enough--to find by a sufficiently space-faring race.

It would be extremely simple to design an artifact to be easily found. Digging geometric trenches around it. Setting it on the highest peak in the center of Tycho Crater. Having it broadcast on all frequencies. A blinking light.

Of course, nobody would leave a calling card unless they already knew someone was there to see it. So why not just land on the White House lawn? One of the problems I have with UFO enthusiasts is that their premises have no logical consistency.

"HI! We're the Space Brothers, and we're keeping ourselves a BIG SECRET! Excuse us as we buzz your big cities with brilliant lights flashing all over our vehicles!"

Remember that we found the tracks of the rovers from orbit. Then again, we knew right where to look for them.

Conclusions: If someone Out There wants to say "we're here!" there are some pretty obvious ways to do it. But don't hold your breath looking for somebody else's Viking Lander.
