Plus electricity.
I love technology, I really do, but some technologies are not yet outdated!
I can still read a book at the beach or in a tree, with the aid of sunlight. And, OK, glasses. No outlets, no batteries, no worries about scratches on CDs, minimal worries about sand and dust, and slightly more than minimal worries about general dampness.
Equal access is a big thing for me. Once everyone has a computer and can afford the electricity, then it becomes a true advantage. Right now, the big adversaries to equal access are universal literacy (the lack thereof) and rural isolation. Technology can help with the latter, but you know, they had bookwagons in the 19th century. Horsepower. :)
