Doctrine versus Dogma
Doctrine is an idea or set of ideas taught to a group of people to get them all to cooperate. It is often procedural, a vague idea of how to accomplish a task. For example, "due process" is legal doctrine, "experimentation" is scientific doctrine. Dogma is doctrine accepted by a group of people without supporting evidence. Forward-looking speculation is dogma, such as science fiction. Alternative history is dogma, such as religious creationism. People do well with dogma as long as they stay within their indoctrinated group. They can't go wrong. They all cooperate and support the same ideas.
