No...
Great Red Herring argument against a strawman. No one is saying that their are dieases on Mars that would infect humans. That is nothing except an old sci-fi myth you are using.
That is EXACTLY the argument that others have used in fighting the MSR mission... It IS a red herring, but I wasnt the one that tossed it out there.
Please see the scare tactics on: http://www.icamsr.org/
still want to claim No one is saying that their are dieases on Mars that would infect humans. ?
Well, if they aren't claiming it they sure as hell are implying it!!!
The front page of www.icamsr.org states the following:
From the years 1347 - 1350, one quarter of the European population died as a result of a flea from China carrying an unfamiliar microbe.
Smallpox microbes brought to the America's by the Spaniards killed tens of thousands of native inhabitants not naturally immune to this "new" disease.
When the European explorers reached the Polynesian and Hawiian Islands, 50% of the native inhabitants died as a result of imported microbes...
In the near future, NASA plans to bring back to the surface of the Earth, a canister from Mars filled with Martian soil, which could contain possible pathogenic viruses and/or bacteria. In light of the loss of both the Mars Climate Orbiter and Mars Polar Lander spacecraft (due to human error), the International Committee Against Mars Sample Return (ICAMSR) urges the scientific and environmental communities to study the material contained in this website to make an informed decision on whether they feel the risks outway the benefits. We only have one Earth. ICAMSR seeks a complete life sciences evaluation of the surface of Mars with robotic space probes designed to look for evidence of life before samples are returned to Earth.
ICAMSR Founder and Executive Director Barry E. DiGregorio has repeatedly posted the silliness about virus epidemics coming from space on this board....
I didnt drop the red herring into this debate, I merely pointed it out and said it stank
Now go study how bacteria actually work in an ecosystem, plant or animal. How they co-evolved with animal life on Earth.
See, the key is co-evolved... by definition earth bacteria have evolved to maximally exploit earth resources... they utilize protiens abundant in our environment....
I have not seen ANY convincing argument that ANY lifeform from Earth could survive, let alone spread on Mars... Some could exist in dormancy, yes, but not spread and thrive...
Mars is Toxic to all earth native lifeforms, it is silly to think thay an environment like Mars that has been shown to have such a dearth of biodiversity compared to earth (If ANY life forms at all) would produce a lifeform capable of surviving on the very alien earth.
Look, I am all for precautions to be taken- really, but I am sick and tired of ignorant scare tatics and uneducated hacks trying to get press time opposing yet another NASA project...
