Ah feel yer pain
I don't know where the media came in to this...nor Clinton's scientific incapacity to feel my pain (actually, it's pronounced "Ah feeeeeeel yer payun", intoned with lip-smacking gusto. [That phrase was the single creepiest aspect of Clinton, IMHO. But I digress.] But I digress).
Bush is a politican: We don't want a scientist instead of a politican. It is possible for a scientist to become a politican, but then they aren't being scientist, they are being a politican who can claim they were once a scientist.
What we don't want is for public policy to be made in contradiction of strong science. Which is to say, I want public policy to be made on a rational basis, weighing things that can be weighed. Bush descends to the level of the Tennessee Legislature resolving that pi=3.0 when he endorses ID a.k.a. Creationism.
A politician doesn't have to be a scientist, just have the wisdom to listen to scientists on matters of science. George W. Bush, however, is a fool.
