Sheriffs from several counties scratching their heads about odd crimes to their cattle with no explanantions?

You have nothing to worry about. You don't live in Montana or Colorado.
Until you find one in the middle of the road one night going down your mountain, or out in your yard, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
