As people are free to post on topics they find of interest, others are free to comment negatively as well as positively about those topics.
I am trying to keep track of things, and to make sure that arguments don't become personal, but I'll probably miss things once in a while. To reiterate my general philosophy:
-There's nothing so dangerous that it can't be talked about. OT is the perfect place for ecclectic thoughts and musings because it includes everything without an otherwise designated pigeonhole.
-Re: argument vs. attack: None of us can expect to avoid argument when we broach a contoversial topic, but people can choose different ways to argue. One can take the offensive without being offensive. Negative remarks should be limited to criticism of ideas, statements and actions, and must not include persons. "You're stupid" crosses the line by evaluating a whole individual based on his or her online persona. "Your idea is stupid", while certainly not diplomatic, is well within the range of allowable criticism. "Your approach to criticism is crude" is an appropriate response to a less-than-diplomatic criticism. :)
If you think things have gotten too personal, Lindy, please get in touch with me and we can talk. Thanks!
