Where to begin?
Kos isn't a comedian. His efforts to channel hate are different than a comedian's appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Comedians first goal is ratings. If they become like a Kos, they would alienate too many and the revenues would drop.
Stewart plays to a limited market, like Limbaugh, he's targeting the far left. He'll sacrifice sheer numbers to provide a high number of faithful who hear stuff catered directly towards them. I've seen parts of his show twice, and only while flipping between channels.
Did you laugh when I riffed on your straight line about "pictures of pussies"? Most people would. My reaction in that situation is to laugh at myself for saying something so silly and setting myself up for it. "Doh!" is so profoundly human, and humans are profoundly funny.)
I mentioned "pictures of pussies" because it was a once in a blue moon opportunity to use a rather vulgar triple-entendre legitimately. I was LMAO when I made that post. Sadly, I put more humor into most posts than anyone appreciates. I was surprised no one reacted to it. That you thought that was a straight line I sort of figured judging by your response. I guess I'm considered such a straight-shooter that I would never make such a reference.
Unfortunately, explaining a joke or a post takes all the impact out of it. I know a young lady who laments that her IM buddies don't know when she is telling a joke or if she is serious and so she has to write (joke) after every bit of attempted humor. I hope it never has to get to that. (joke)
Late-night humor isn't my cup of tea, precisely because it has been designed to appeal to a broad common denominator. It's generally unsophisticated and banal - jokes your average 8th grader should be capable of getting.
I love this next line. You sound as if you're trying to explain humor to Data (ST TNG):
Bask in the warmth of the fellowship of laughter.
Hey, that's why I come here...unlimited opportunity for mirth.*
(joke)
;-)
*such as my reaction to your comments, for example.
