I understand

And I use webmail for virtually everything with one exception.

Family, for a variety of reasons I won't go into, most of my family email is through my ISP.

Unfortunately, most of them are computer inept to an extreme. I'd wager a decent steak half of them have taken their PC's into the shop at least once in the last 6 months for some sort of malware infestation.

Now, by now you're asking yourself, "why in the hell would he do it that way?"

Like I said, a wide variety of reasons that have no bearing on this discussion.

Clarification, my "mid-session" backup is a floppy. My 'closing backup" is a CD.

Most of the drafts have exceeded the capacity of the standard floppy, I save just the changes since last b/u point during midsession. It's a cruddy way to do it, but old habits die hard. It'll be much better when I get a thumb drive and external HDD.

Last comment,then I'll drop this.

Okay, I'll drop Macs. Look at how much you saved in the last two days with your homebuilt PC.
With a Mac, that worm wouldn't even have been able to make its OS calls, little less have htem listened to.

Why didn't you save those parts and build yourself a mule to use with the internet?

I didn't spend a single farthing in cash, granted some downtime and a headache from hell. But not one single hapenney.

Ed, I don't exactly roll in dough. I have one, count em, one computer. And it's mostly a bodge of several others. If it goes toes up on me, I'd have a hard time replacing it. Simple facts that I have to live with. That's why I use so much freeware, why half my current box is second hand parts.

No hardware firewall, AKA "mule" for me in the near future. If I gather enough spare cash for anything extra, I'd spend it on building a new system.

Nuff said, let's put this one to bed K?
