I'm sure you think you're making some sort of telling point, but the failure of Democrats to conform to your straw man question really doesn't prove a lot.

Speaking for myself, at this late date there's not much point in outrage; events are simply vindicating the judgments I formed early about Bush. In this instance, the issue is the sad irony that apparently Bush didn't need to be sneaky, he could have ordered the wiretaps the legal way. But early on I realized that Bush is somebody who prefers the devious, dishonest route over the straightforward path, and so the NSA revelations aren't that big a surprise.

If you think the lack of outrage bodes well for your boy, think again. Resigned shrugs and "there he goes again" speaks of a public that's already written-off Bush, not a public that's rooting for him. I'd say that a large part of the citizenry is biding its time until after the 2006 elections, waiting for a Democratic Congress to stand up to Bush and hold him accountable.

Pace yourself, Tom, you have to tread water until well into 2007.
