The government could make several million citizens miserable simply by increasing the IRS audit frequency. The government could harrass people to the grave by citing every traffic violation. Jaywalking is against the law. How many of your friends and relatives were arrested or cited for jaywalking in the past 10 years?

They don't have the time or capacity to do this.

Logistically, government surveilance cannot be applied broadly. Information on many people can be stored and traded but this is done by adware, credit agencies and insurance databases, not by the government.

They couldn't care less about your private life or mine Lindy. They just don't care about either of us and all your dissent is as unimportant to them as my so called support. I am registered as a Republican and I get junk mail and autographed pics of GWB all the time but I haven't given them a dime in years.

There has never been a moment in your life that they couldn't have had you disappear on a whim but they are too busy to indulge in such whims.
