Bush senior was aware what would happen to Iraq if Saddam were toppled: the next political power that can replace the dictator is the religous power, same as what happened to Algeria in 1992.
If religion takes over, religious extremism takes over (even in our countries, Islam is more represented by extremists than moderates) and gone are women's freedom.
Bush junior is now faced with those forces he himself liberated.
Not just because islam is expanding it's influence but also because Bush junior's policies are felt there with resentment and humiliation.
