You know REB, there's politicians here that I've met personally or know their reputations from other men that have had to deal with them that are the scum of the Earth and yet their constituency thinks they do just a fine and dandy job. Yet you ask them anything about the man and they don't know what he's voted on, what he's done for the district, or how he treats their neighbors. All they have is name recognition and for some, that's enough to assume the man is doing a good job. What I'm saying here is that just because you haven't heard negative from citizens in his district means nothing about the character of the man. The public sees this phony persona, gets to shake his hand, sees him at the mandated charity fund raisers and gets what his handlers put out.
My impression of the man is from the insight I've gained in life watching a men talk, the way they carry themselves, the haughty attitude they have when confronted. Almost to a tee, you can spot the used car salesman a mile off. You can see the lust for power in their eyes, hear it in their voices. I wouldn't have needed Ronnie Earl's indictments to tell me about the character of Delay. He fit the profile from the moment I heard him talk and his invocation of God and Jesus in every other statement. REB, I know you and I disagree on religion and spirituality but I have to tell you that I have found that people that push their religosity like that have this underlying evil they're trying to hide. The religious people I know and respect are humble and self-deprecating types that are accepting of other's views. I firmly believe you and others on here that are pro-Administration are blinded by people like this and, to tell you the truth, a bit gullible. Would you like to buy my van that's up for sale?
You say Ronnie Earl has unjustly buried Tom Delay so let's put this in perspective. First of all, I'm not a huge Bill Clinton fan because of some policy issues I had with his administration but, I always felt there was some balance inside the man - this lust for power and ego, but a compassionate side that kicked in from time to time. Let's assume you're right about the Earl witchhunt and let's assume all the attacks on Clinton were equally as political in nature (Whitewater, his alleged sexual impropriety before Monica, etc.) Even though he was brought up for impeachment, the public really never left the man. His public persona simply didn't fit the things he was being accused of. He probably could've won another term if it had been allowed.
You just don't see the same outpouring of support for Delay in his troubles. I believe most people can look at him and assume that he's more than capable of doing the things he's charged with. If Tom Delay is buried by this, I think he's either truly guilty or he's led such a sleezy life he doesn't qualify for sympathy from most of the public.
