re: Price of freedom for an Iraqi: $40,000.

We've been over "alternatives." Nobody had any plausible ones, other than leave him alone with his 25 million vassals, and hope he didn't make any trouble in the future.

Saddam had been under threat and sanction by the U.N. for years without noticable effect to his regime, if not his citizens.

He WAS surrounded by troops, and offered exile. Other nations, like Bahrain, offered him the same deal.

He didn't take it.

The idea that Saddam is a kleptocrat doesn't match the facts as much as the idea that he is an idealistic imperialist, something he continues to display. Much more dangerous.

And then we have Lindy with her "mourning Iraqis" meme. For every Iraqi mourning a loss because of this war, about thirty are mourning losses due to Saddam's atrocities and warmongering. This fact seems to completely elude people like Lindy.

The Left treats this war like Saddam's history never existed. It's getting old.
