..is never popular. However as the media ratchets up it's "quagmire" rhetoric, the Bush administration and military commanders get pressure to capture the hostiles.
Sure no one says "get nasty". But when the Shiite revenge squads go looking for the Sunni insurgents, you can bet that results as a reaction from new Iraqi leaders who feel pressured by their citizens to "get em..now!"
Citizens whose attention span covers the headlines in the news, get tired of hearing about attacks. They don't hear about the ones in other countries - mainly just Iraq. The media effectively controls laissez-faire opinion by deciding how much to hype the events in Iraq over other similar and worse events elsewhere.
Naturally the media-led puppets start saying "quagmire" or "civil war" and whatever they've heard someone else say.
The media helps fuel death in Iraq the same way they fuel hostage taking by giving the terror kidnapper his most desired goal - an audience. And don't waste my time trying to tell me it's not so Robert - because it IS so, you know it's true, but just can't get yourself to admit it yet or find a way of justifying it by playing the equivalence game.
Once you know your bombing will make front page news around the world even if it only kills a few people, it's worth a suicide bomber or two and a thousand bucks worth of explosive to get that coverage.
While things like this which will generate tens of thousands of casualties and deaths in the next week alone qualify for 26 news stories around the world.
Did you know about it? Another small genocide in the making and the media burys it. The media loves slaughter, suffering and death - it's their bread and butter right after sex, sleaze and celebrity hype. But it only sells when the US is involved then all the world's anti-American masses & leftists give them their sales.
If more people knew they might protest and try to make a difference, but instead they protest the US and the events in Iraq which are highlighted by self-interest. Making me out to be the heavy who likes blood, when the opposite is true, is par-for-the-course - for the exact same thing is being done globally with the image of the USA.
