The definition of "quagmire"

A "quagmire" isn't defined by a war's critics, it's defined by a war's proponents.

When they resort to extortion--"pulling out now will only make it worse"--it's an admission that there's no better reason for being there than because their guy got us into it in the first place.

When they say that to pull out now would render the sacrifices of those who've already died meaningless, they're indulging in a form of irrational thinking that in business is expressed by an old joke: "There's good news and there's bad news. The bad news is that we're losing money per unit. The good news is that we'll make it up on volume."

Funny in a business setting, tragic in a war.

I'm not the one calling it a quagmire, you and the remaining Republican supporters of the war are calling it a quagmire.

That assertion that the press shouldn't report on terrorist acts is an old one, and it has no more merit now than it ever did. It's a bedrock principle of our democracy that the citizens get to make the ultimate judgments, and any attempt to deprive the citizens of all the information they need to make informed judgments is an attack on democracy itself. It's hardly worth discussing: Either you believe fully in democracy, or you don't. And clearly you and like-minded Neos don't believe in democracy. End of story.

But an afterword: Nobody ever promised that democracy would be easy, and in fact it's the most difficult form of government...from the perspective of those in power. Tyranny is easy for the tyrant, dictatorship a blessing to a dictator. But that's not America. Live with dissent or live elsewhere.
