re: The definition of "quagmire"
"I'm not the one calling it a quagmire, you and the remaining Republican supporters of the war are calling it a quagmire."
"That assertion that the press shouldn't report on terrorist acts is an old one, and it has no more merit now than it ever did. It's a bedrock principle of our democracy that the citizens get to make the ultimate judgments, and any attempt to deprive the citizens of all the information they need to make informed judgments is an attack on democracy itself. It's hardly worth discussing: Either you believe fully in democracy, or you don't. And clearly you and like-minded Neos don't believe in democracy. End of story."
And you call the GOP nitpickers?
Those quotes are priceless.
I'm not calling it a quagmire. I've called it a "resounding success". I don't see how I could be confused with Don, Bowser, Jack, Eric, Lindy et al.
Most GOP-ers who may describe it as a quagmire are generally doing so in response to the media having used the phrase rather liberally and couching questions in such a way as to receive the desired word "quagmire" in any response.
The truth is VERY simple: Iraqis ARE Iraqis. A constitution and a set of freedoms does not create a clone of the USA. Illiteracy and a penchant for violence is not stamped out by such either.
As for the second quote, as I expected, you justified the media violence parade. Claiming that blood & guts and selective reporting of such is democracy in action is a farce. What we have are private companies interjecting their politics and profit motives into the news.
Sure that's freedom of the press.
Retarding the public, encouraging selective violence and withholding other news is not democracy it is merely the acts of private companies just as dirty in human suffering and exploitation as any tobacco company. Mental health and exploitation of terrorist acts isn't on the public radar yet...but it will be.
