Saddam lost his first nuclear weapons program when the Israelis bombed it, which earned the Israelis the throrough condemnation of all the Right-Thinking People around the world.
Saddam rebuilt the program, and would have had atomic weapons for some years already if not for the Gulf War that revealed the program to a clueless United Nations.
When we invaded Iraq, there was no active program. But the scientists, documents, and some equipment were there, waiting for the right time.
The war on Iran went on for eight years. It had been done for about three years when Saddam invaded Kuwait in a second war of conquest.
At some point, a reasonable person has to ask if a pattern of behavior can be detected here.
As for "average numbers," they are just as valid as the "average number" of any other death figure, which glosses over spikes and lulls.
Current Events » in reply to Unless he's invading Iran or committing another attempted genocide, those average numbers are just plain bogus.
Your faith in Saddam's future behavior apparently exceeds mine.

- "Personally, the number is 1."
- Surely you've heard of Pyrrhic victories?

- "The Iraqi civilian dead over the past three years is STILL far less than the average killed annually by Saddam over his regime, "
- WHAT BS
- does that annual average include the Iraq-Iran war and the gassing of the Kurds? (n/t)
- Nice try, but I can see the boilerplate response a mile away. (n/t)
