They just like controlled circumstances and are risk averse.

In a more perfect world everyone would be a pacifist. But if you have even one that is not, you have a world that will need "policing" and if that number grows to anywhere near the thousands you need a "military" to go along with it.

Our military is the most advanced and "enlightened" in the world. We're the first nation to sacrifice a number of our own military members' lives to save lives of those we engage in combat. We use technology to minimize collateral damage instead of using it to demoralize the enemy.

"The meek will inherit the Earth" needs a rewrite. More accurately "the good guys will inherit the Earth". Eventually less and less people will need to use violence to curb or restrain the violent ambitions and actions of others.

It's not going to happen anytime soon, but someday - probably when the sun is showing it's age.
