The Solution to the Immigration Problem w/Mexico

Comparing the Mexicans to the Huns is a terrible comparison.

The Mexican laborers come here to work and to prosper. The Huns were purely pillagers who came, destroyed and left with the loot.

A closer and more recent analogy would be the North African settlers in France and much of Europe. Folks who want to work, earn money and yet as a whole provide a significant number who fail to assimilate into the greater multicultural societies of France and Europe and hold no allegiance to the nation they inhabit.

These folks gather together as permanent outsiders on the inside. The educational and lingual barriers keep them stratified on the bottom tier and they naturally will hold hostility towards the system that holds a golden chalice of opportunity at the top of the ladder and yet these barriers chain them to the bottom rungs.

In a very real sense parts of the nation become small Mexican settlements.

The propensity for violence is always there, as demonstrated by the French pockets of North Africans that effectively settled in France. However, this violence is not of the scale you imagine by any means. We are looking at race riots, looting, and lots of protests and Mexican flag waving.

The battle is one of laws and law enforcement. We do not successfully enforce our immigration laws. Now when we start to build the tools ( a wall) and fund folks to more successfully enforce laws already existing - the folks who have gotten away with breaking our laws or who are descendants of those who broke our laws all get upset.

The Israeli wall works. The wall in San Diego works. It's time to build it along Arizona so that less folks make the trek across the perilous desert. If we can just keep the number down to 100,000 illegals per year - we win a major victory for the economy. The recession that began in 1989 in California and which has continued off & on in many ways since then was helped along by an unprecedented increase in illegal immigration into the US from Mexico. When the Mexican Peso failed, millions (plural) streamed across our borders in a single year and the flow has never slowed under a million per year since then. The burden on the economy & job market has never recovered fully from this exodus from Mexico.

The solution?

We need to fix the rate of exchange with the Peso and support it artificially for ten years. This should spur unprecedented investment in Mexico's economy from all over the world. At the same time we need to tighten the border to that magical 100,000 a year figure which will allow us to catch our breath and successfully assimilate the exisiting 30 million we have absorbed.

When Mexican can have a decent paying job with buying power in their Peso, live in nicer housing with sanitation and infrastructure projects on the rise and less corruption in their local and national government, they will gladly stay, live and work in Mexico. They will be proud, not just of their cultural heritage, but of their government, economy, homes and progress.

That is THE goal.

This Bill is the first step - the second step is to fix the exchange rate.

It's really that simple.
