If you want to thank someone for the problem, thank the people who have offered jobs to impoverished illegals.

Especially those who have exploited both the poverty of the Mexicans to get them here and their legal situation once they arrive to keep them quiet and at heel.

If you think that immigration is a bad thing for America, maybe you should go back to Europe, where your people came from. Similar remarks have been made about every large wave of immigration that has ever hit the US, and every time the immigrants became Americanized by choice. They did this because more doors opened with every step toward acculturation and political participation that they took.

If we want the Mexican immigrants to resist becoming Americans, all we have to do is to keep behaving like they are not worth welcoming. We can also get to work building the wall along the border, complete with razorwire and machine guns. Perhaps we can get advice on this from the former East Germans. They can tell us about how well the one in Berlin worked.

If we want to keep the Mexicans at home, we need to help Mexico become a place that can support them.
