Even a 50cc Scooter costs $2500. I have no idea how long they last, but if one lasted 5 years that would be $42/mth purchase financing. Gas? Insurance? I don't know, but it just might be low enough to compete with buses, and give far greater personal mobility. The downside is they aren't fully-enclosed with heat/air-conditioning, and have a top speed of 35 mph. The next size up is a subcompact car, weighing 1800 lbs and costing $15,000, with nothing in-between.
