At least the alternative was a person that could put together a coherent sentence. I'd have gladly settled for that.
Tom, you put too much emphasis on one man. With Bush came this whole cabal of really powerhungry anti-Constitutionalists. Bush by himself would've hardly been a threat or probably gotten us into half the messes we're in today. I can live with an incompetent president as long as he's surrounded by very professional and ethical staff. That simply hasn't been the case with this administration.
As much as I was put off by many things that Clinton did, he seemed to surround himself with talent and he'd often grab that talent from both sides of the political aisle. The overriding message I've heard from staffers that experienced both administrations is that Clinton's was one of inclusion to differing viewpoints and I think it's pretty clear now that Bush Jr's mantra is "My way or the highway". I got the impression that Kerry or Gore would've probably built a sound and diverse staff but that is only speculation based on gut reaction.
I even approve of many of the people Bush Sr. picked. Reagan was a mixed bag but compared to GW, his cabinet and staff were solid and competent.
Let me put it to you mildly Tom. If you can't see this by now, you're absolutely blind.
