The accounts I read on a regular basis describe the actions of others as well as themselves, and are honest portrayals for the most part. Kevin Sites, who told the world about the mosque shooting, is a milblogger.
Unfortunately, you often have to turn to bloggers, local stories and other non-mainstream sources to read about military heroism, medal winners, or any positive stories about our troops in Iraq.
In my more cynical moments, the mainstream media seems to be comfortable only with stories where our troops are either Calley-type loose cannons, or exploited low-income dupes who went into the military because they couldn't find other jobs. The main theme is usually failure of some kind.
At least on Memorial Day, we sometimes see some exceptions to this. A good one is here. Good luck the rest of the year.
