It isn't a question of accepting the Bible as the word of a Christian God or accepting the Koran as the word of Allah - it's the question of accepting the old book LITERALLY, as the perfect, eternal, unchanging, inerrant word of the Divine. Every word, every phrase must be accepted as is, and every second of your mortal existence must be lived in accordance with Allah's perfect words. No modern reinterpetations. No room for compromise. No room for "Reformed" Islam.
What would happen to a "moderate" Muslic cleric who had the audacity to stand up and claim that the Koran is merely ancient religious wisdom, not to be taken by Muslims as direct guidance in the same way today as it was 13 centuries ago?? I shudder to think of that poor cleric's fate. He would most likely be condemned as a blasphemer and put to the sword. Good grief, Islam in its current state is so incredibly intolerant that a Muslim author can't even write a harmless novel, and a newspaper can't even publish silly, harmless cartoons, without violence and bloodshed as a result.
