whatever the facts about Medina it is true to say that Islam has a violent and vicious history, as does Christianity, and as do the biblical Israelites. Not something anyone can be proud of I'd say. In fact, collective shame is probably the only decent and proper response IMHO.

(I alienate various people I know with the Israelites reference, but truth is truth, so too bad. They can 'read it and weep' - as do I (literally, almost). Or, more accurately, they can jump up and down - as they do ..)
