There are lots of reasons good and bad but I believe most want to share their opinions, dreams, experiences and sometimes they just want to sing us a song. I usually enjoy all of these.
When opinions are shared it is certain that there will be some emotional reaction and that is to be expected. I admire the members that hold strong opinions and tirelessly defend their side.
I have a hard time understanding why, after we know how a particular individual stands on certain issues, anyone feels compelled to respond only to make a derogatory personal comment. A well thought out challenge to an opinion is ruined by snideness.
We provide this flame board for the express purpose of delivering insults but it apparently is not sufficient for some. With the proliferation of forums on the internet it makes you wonder. Why don't hateful people post on boards where they can while away the hours agreeing with kindred spirits how full the world is with fools? Why do they come to a small diverse community like this and make ineffectual posts, insulting individuals that they have disagreed with for years? What kind of personality feels compelled to always lash out? Could they possibly believe they are changing the world in this remote venue?
There are people in this community with opinions poles apart from mine but I still hold them in high regard. There are some with similar opinions that I hold in far less regard. I know who is who and I try to react accordingly.
