re: ethics

"There are a lot of places in America where you can leave your doors routinely unlocked, and if the cops were called off somewhere for a while, nobody would start looting.

There are other places where the looting starts as soon as there's a power outage.

Analysis of this is a whole other thread. "

Most of US population is in urban areas. You right that you could endlessly talk about this, but the rural vs urban is distraction. My point is simple, there is no evidence that America [or any country, including Europe] is becoming ethically advanced and if we were becoming ethically advanced I think that would only be a good thing.

In fact I would go so far as to say, forget Capitalism- if you could "somehow" make a society more ethically advanced, you will a have a society that grows stronger and it will be the next Superpower. In other words ethically advanced equals strength rather than weakness.
I think the basic problem here, is you are equating in some way the idea that Liberalism is ethically advanced. But it's mostly the opposite: Liberalism as is commonly understood is immoral and unethical- and to that extent it is, is why it fails.
As examples: there is nothing ethical about being a victim or worshipping victimhood. And there is it nothing ethical about allowing murderers the chance to keep murdering people. And there is nothing ethical about being a coward and blaming others for doing something rather than doing little about a problem- such as kicking a problem down the road [hoping it goes away or someone else will have to deal with it].
