The King David was indeed a popular meeting place for Brits, both in the military and government. In fact, it was the most popular watering hole for the press as well.
Deal with the fact that one man's terrorist attack is often another's pre-emptive strike. And a terrorist attack is a media event, best explained by Gerry Adams when he said, "one bomb in London (Harrads Department store) is worth 20 in Belfast." Your wedding or church picnic probably wouldn't be a first choice target unless the attendees had some newsworthy stature.
