Morality is the cocept mankind uses to determine right and wrong. The Buddhists and Taoists are closest to the mark when they realize no right or wrong exist, but they don't have science to tell them why or to clean up their philosophical positions.
If you were not a man, but were the entire universe you would see how the infinite universe is broken down into an infinite number of finite/infinite expressions. There exists an unmistakable duality as infinity requires an infinite number of components and within each of these infinity is again manifested.
This duality of all things is what allow for polar perception. The universe is comprised of energy and this energy has polarity as one of its components. Therefore all things will be oscillating.
Humanity oscillates as well. Our actions are constantly moderated by our consciousness and interpreted by two simple biases:
positive and negative.
This filter is applied to every action and every thought, though we tend to not see it quite as scientifically and call positive, good, and negative, bad.
We got a raise today, that's good!
Cut my finger, that's bad.
Leftists seeking defeat in Iraq - bad.
Gas prices going down - good.
Gas companies - bad.
Robert finally added a search function - good.
Robert's time to do so - bad.
Making a post that explains things - good.
People not understanding - bad.
Yes, you and me and the rest of humanity are unique, individually formed, relativistic positive/negative filters of data.
Sure, we may realize there exists two sides to things. But the bottom line is we will bias ALL things one way or another within our consciousness.
Personalities, celebrities, politicians, aspects of our life, family, friends - NOTHING escapes this bias.
Morality is each individuals state of mind that, as per its current biases, determines positive and negative actions.
Naturally there is no absolute morality as declared by some deity or god, but each individual is charged by the infinite universe with their own decisions and consequences based upon their understanding and knowledge.
It is preposterous to say Bin Laden is immoral or Bush is immoral or anybody is immoral. Only THEY can determine that based upon their own levels of knowledge and understanding. We can only measure their actions by our own understandings and current set of biases and say they are moral or immoral by our standards.
That is why the cat is not immoral when it kills a mouse or bird for sport, when to a more enlightened human, killing things for sport seems generally sadistic and would be interpreted as personally destructive to one's mental outlook and your surroundings and therefore is immoral.
So morality is a tool. It is a valuable tool with which we build our consciousness and become ever more intelligent and constructive. By choosing to act in ways according to our own sense of good/bad or right/wrong we strengthen or weaken various personality traits and develop new ones to replace those that we no longer value or want to have as a part of ourself.
End of primary definition.
Advanced definition (pt. 2)
Seen in the abstract, bias is a tool used to build ever more complex energy structures. Each bias sets off a new wave train subharmonic of energy. Bias allows for evolution. All creatures large and small have built in bias - based upon this polar component energy which comprises them and surrounds them. They do not necessarily think but their component energy structures do bias.
This bias allows creatures to evolve and adapt to their environment. Their cell structures recognize damage and bias it negative. They record the environmental cause and immediately act to avoid this again. A chameleon's ancestors cells recognized they contrasted to much with surrounding wavelengths of light and slowly developed a mechanism by which they could recognize and adjust cell chemical balance to blend in with surrounding light wave lengths. It is not a conscious effort on the part of the chameleon but is built into the DNA intelligence signals which control its cells' functions.
Each creature is unique in its biases and reactions to them. A lizard's cells recognized the tail it uses for balance also is the first thing to be destroyed when pursued or under attack and so its cells developed a regenerative ability as well as the ability to sacrifice and disconnect the tail once it has been attacked.
Part 3 very advanced definition ;-)
How do the collective past experiences of creatures get carried on, in part, to a current one?
All these experiences are stored as intelligence in a magnetic vortex that supports and is generated by each cell. The chameleon when seen in a non-physical way can be seen as a group of energy vortices both large and small. And in these magnetic nano-vortices exist all experiences and recorded biases. These control its reactions and these structures will attach to some future chameleon via frequency relationship and it will live again and learn more.
These vortices form the DNA and impart all this previously recorded data. The DNA will add new data and on and on it goes.
Also all species and genus broadcast certain intelligence which is tapped by the collective whole. Bees and ants are known to communicate in this "hive" or "colony" mentality and work together off of broadcast cues.
Man, too, is constantly recieving and broadcasting, unbeknownst to himself. Mankind receives a certain collective frequencies from those around him, near and far. If people are agitated or angry, this broadcasts and will irritate others nearby. They will not recognize the source, because it is simply a subharmonic which they are suddenly resonating with.
Fear, joy, frustration, excitement all our various emotions broadcast or could be called "contagious".
In the future, like the bees and ants already have developed, I suspect mankind will be even more able to recognize and identify these constantly broadcast subharmonics. You will know if the person living next door to you is angry, even if you hear nothing. You will walk past a hospital and be able to feel others pain. You will be able to feel the joy of a five year old having a birthday party.
Man probably bypassed this signal recognition as destructive to its greater evolution. This is the empathy Bowser speaks of.
Empathy, used intelligently, could aid in the helping of others, but it requires a complex and strong mind that is not influenced by these signals.
For the less developed, empathy manifests as wholesale panic, terror, hatred or grieving. In less developed parts of the world we see empathy at work and it is almost universally destructive to their personal and collective evolution.
Suicide bombers have empathy, people who grab a gun after seeing the wounded or dead and get killed themselves have empathy. The pack animal who sees part of his pack go down and attacks the cause, even if it is futile, has empathy.
Empathy is only a valuable tool when you are intelligent enough to react and not be overridden by these subharmonic signals! Then you can assist others intelligently instead of reacting like an animal. Then can you help to avert dissension, hate and polemic in your pack and in any packs you travel with.
Bias, and signal sharing are both tools used for evolution.
If you stuck with me this far...congratulations. If you skipped to the end just to find the winkey-smiley here it is:

- You don't have to be religious to have morality.
- An issue. Involves empathy, which is lacking in True Believers.
