Naaah.

It isn't just visual. Thinking works this way, too. To oversimplify, the human mind is allergic to chaos, and will force a pattern on the world around it if it can't find one already there. In a world defined by chaotic and random events, this gets interesting.

You come to the wrong conclusion when you say it's allergic to chaos. It simply chooses the closest approximation it has stored in its databanks.

This whole notion of chaos nonplusses me. What is chaos?

Chaos is interpretive - an inability of the mind to recognize a foreign stream of intelligence.

To a stranger who comes to the HZ and sees the bickering, random postings, etcetera, it all seems chaotic. It settles down when they add to their databanks the personalities conflicts, posting styles, etcetera.

On a new office job, the scene is chaos: people standing, typing, talking, walking, laughing and it all seems chaotic - and yet our minds know these folks see no chaos at all in their actions - and once we learn - the chaos dissapears.

Chaos is purely interpretive.

There is no chaos in the universe. Folks only interpret chaos when they cannot follow the logical series of events which they suddenly catch just a glimpse of.

All is cause and effect. To believe the universe is chaotic one would have to repeal science or believe science is all bogus.

This is scale thinking. We see order in our own sphere and chaos everywhere beyond it. We call the Middle East chaotic and yet when you're there in it, one sees the cause and effect of all the violence, etcetera.

Random and nothing are two words that have meaning only conceptually and not in reality.

A random pattern is random only to us. There is science involved in the spatter of paint against a canvas as the paint flew through the air or was flung from the brush. We see this pattern and it means nothing to us. We insert patterns and try to match up a pattern that will fit. However if we learn more about the science involved in flinging paint - soon we can recognize where the artist held the brush, what angle his/her hand flipped the brush at, and how much paint was approximately on the brush!

Relinquishing things outside our sphere of knowledge or understanding to chaos or anarchy is a cop-out. There's order to the universe. Chaos exists within it as an interpretive element.
