I've tried to limit my involvement in this topic because it's so ugly and acrimonious, just dipping a toe in now and then. But I have to say, Tom and the rest of the coalition of the willing-to-give-Foley-a-pass, that you're doing terrible damage to your own side.

Take for a moment at face value your belief that the Democrats are manipulating the situation. Isn't this the reaction they dreamt of? Could anything tarnish the Republican image worse than leaping to the defense of an ephebophiliac? (That's the correct term for a teenager fetish, BTW; it's not technically pedophilia.) Democrats are standing aside, watching you guys self-destruct. Go ahead, fall for it.

And understand, it doesn't matter what you say, it's the fact that you're saying anything at all that's so damaging. The only thing that would've saved Republicans would have been prompt disclosure and action, and it's too late for that. You'd be smart to keep a low-profile, not go on a rampage.
